GAMES OF THE WEEK
Rye (5-0) vs. Sleepy Hollow (5-0)
When: Friday, 7 p.m.
Where: Rye High School
Key players: Rye — Andrew Livingston (6-1, 170), Jr., QB; Chris Santangelo (5-10, 170), Sr., WR/DB; Shane O’Malley (5-9, 170), Sr., RB/LB. Sleepy Hollow — Devin Lopez (5-9, 165), Sr., QB/DB; Dante Ellis (5-8, 175), Sr., RB/LB; Nick Arduino (6-1, 175), Sr., WR/DB.
Key matchup: Rye’s containment of Lopez
Outlook: Only four unbeaten teams remain in Section 1, and that will be whittled down to three after this game. It will pit two of the section’s top quarterbacks head to head, but Livingston and Lopez and their offenses have quite contrasting approaches. Livingston and his receivers will stretch the field vertically. Lopez does just as much of his damage on the ground (730 yards passing; 648 rushing). Rye’s defense will need to contain Lopez’s rushing and turn him into a passer. Both teams should score, so a stop or two could prove to be the difference.
Prediction: Rye 35, Sleepy Hollow 20. I don’t know that Rye will do to Lopez what it did to Justin Davidov, but Rye has the most complete team in Class A. It will prove just that Friday night.
