Rye vs John Jay

Posted Sunday, October 07, 2012 by lohud Staff

John Jay 38, Rye 21: At John Jay, Jack Lambert had 27 carries for 251 yards and three touchdowns to help the Indians overcome a 14-10 halftime deficit. Lambert played most of the snaps at quarterback in the second half. Tyler Keech sat out the third quarter with a left shoulder injury he suffered playing defense in the third quarter, although he did return in the fourth.

After Rye answered with a TD run by Danny Sullivan to cut its deficit to 24-21 and by forcing a three-and-out on the ensuing possession, John Jay regained momentum when Nick Kells forced a fumble that was recovered by Anthony Scapperotti. It led to a Lambert touchdown that gave the Indians a 31-21 lead with 8:09 remaining.

Andrew Livingston finished 10 for 16 for 142 yards, including a touchdown pass of 33 yards to Tim DeGraw. Shane O’Malley led the Garnets with 117 yards rushing.

Rye coach Dino Garr will try next week to surpass North Rockland’s Joe Casarella for second place on Section 1’s all-time wins’ list. He moved into a tie with Casarella last week when he earned win No. 256, 206 of which have come in 31 seasons at Rye. Somers coach Tony DeMatteo is first with 297 wins.
