With that said, here’s my take on who can emerge in Class A:
The champion —
Rye: The Garnets lost four of their five starting linemen from last season but otherwise they return with several pieces in place. You know all about Connor Eck, the three-year starter at QB. But Rye returns skill players who can step in and fill more prominent roles in Jack O’Callaghan (right) and Brian Pickup, a terrific athlete, and one of the best coaches in the section. Last year’s ugly finish may have left you with doubts, but Dino Garr is absolutely one of the best. Rye’s biggest challenge will be navigating the tough league schedule, but it received somewhat of a reprieve by not having to face Roosevelt in the regular season. The Garnets must prove they are flexible, because Harrison, Spring Valley, Eastchester, Nyack and others all present different challenges.
