Seven players from two-time Class B state champion Rye were among the area players named to the all-state football team, which was announced yesterday by the New York State Sportswriters Association.
Garnets senior Kyle Ramalho earned the highest honor - state player of the year in Class B.
"It's a great honor and, when I found out, I was definitely surprised," Ramalho said. "It makes everything we did this season a little bit better. It's an award I cherish above any other."
Ramalho won four sectional and three state titles at Rye. This season he rushed for 933 yards and 21 touchdowns.
Joining Ramalho from Rye on the first team were senior lineman Ryan Rossi and tight end/linebacker Donald Keough. The other Rye selections were senior defensive back Patrick O'Callaghan and junior running back Cole McCormack to the second team; and senior linebacker Rob Santangelo and sophomore quarterback Connor Eck to the third team
