Just Back…Forget about the penalties…the better team won, but my theory is that this group of officials from Section 7/10 was just in way over their heads. The game may have been just a little too fast for them….Back to back Class B NYS Championships, three in four years, 5 trips to the finals in 6 years…wow! 25 straight wins, 47 of 48, 71 of 74 and 57 straight against Section 1 teams…the thing about this run of glory is that tonight’s game may not be the exclamation point….Rye will be very very good for at least the next couple of years and maybe more. The one component they won’t have is Kyle Ramahlo…the only loss of his four year career was a game in 2006 they trailed 19-0 to Albany Academy with 8 min. left and almost got the equalizing 50 yard field goal on the last play of the game, losing 19-16….47-1 with three NYS titles as a Rye Garnet…everyone thinks of him as a fullback, but he is a shut down defensive tackle to boot. Every player on this team is a stud, but Kyle is an all-timer at Rye. His performance tonight was a prototypical one for him and was the cherry on the cake for his brillant career. And as for Dino Garr…it wasn’t too long ago that the fans were screaming for his head, second guessing everything he did, crying that he couldn’t win the big one and couldn’t beat Harrison…what a crock of spit that turned out to be. Dino, you are goining to be a tough act to follow…someday…Dino is 60 years old now, but he still has the gusto to go out there and do the job in a way only he and his sidekick Tom Maloney can do it. Maybe the move to Class A will provide the motivation. Has any team or coach won section titles with the same school in three enrollment classifications…A B and C? It was a long bus ride home tonight…sorry for the rant, but these were my thoughts while looking out the rainy window.
