Old Garnet looks North...

Posted Thursday, November 13, 2008 by Ole Garnet Himself

OK Garnet loyalists, what do we know about this week's Section Nine opponent the HHS Huskies? No not Harrison High School, but the Huskies of Highland High School, Highland Falls, NY near West Point. Phew, for a minute there I thought it might have be deja vu all over again with a Border War rematch against the arch rival pups, but these Highland Huskies are unfamiliar dogs for the Garnets.

2008 Record is 7-3

Captured their first Section Nine title in ten years Won last weeks championship contest 19-16 on a last second field goal in a rematch with New Paltz Scored no points offensively with their TDs coming on fumble returns for scores 59 seconds apart plus a safety

- call it a "Quick-Strike Defense"

Wins over Burke Catholic (Rye's 2005 playoff foe) twice, Onteora (61-0), Red Hook (Rye's 2006 playoff opponent), Marlboro & New Paltz (Rye's 2007 playoff foe) twice Losses to Saugerties (Class A), O'Neill (Rye's 2003 playoff opponent) & Cornwall (Section 9 Class A Champion)

And what do we know about Rye's Garnets?

Undefeated in 2008 at 10-0

Captured 6th straight Section One Class B Title Local Section One record is 57-0 since the end of the 2002 campaign Record against all comers since the close of the 2002 season is 68-3 Have never lost a Hudson Valley Regional Championship Game to any Section Nine opponent

Old Garnet says "Go with what you know." It's Rye 34-10.

March onward to Kingston again next week.

Persevere and get steeled for the "Drive to the Dome". Pack those turkey sandwiches.
