Kevin…Marc Saracino led Rye to a win in 2000…the only Rye win of the 90's when Rye upset Harrison 7-0 with Willie Elmore at QB.

One of my favorite memories was 1983 when Rye ended an eight year Harrison streak in the game. Rye led 12-0 at the half….but had led many of the eight losses at halftime. Harrison had a great undefeated team and Rye fans were uneasy sensing yet another Harrison late comeback. These fears were realized when the Huskies took the second half kickoff and drove down the field on a time consuming TD drive…a penalty on the TD caused the ensuing kickoff to occur from the 50 yard line. Mike Goldstein of Rye fielded the kick with his toe on the six inch line and his heel barely touching the chalk…everyone in the Rye stands was yelling "let it go" in order for the Garnets to get the ball on the 20….but Goldstein shot straight up the middle eluding a couple of Huskies and he was gone…100 yards for a touch down. The thing that sticks in my mind is because the kickoff was from the 50, Goldstein broke into the clear at about the 15 yard line. As I saw him running free down the field, I just knew at that moment that eight years of Rye agony were finally over. Rye went on to win 24-6. Harrison went on to defeat an undefeated Mahopac team 10-0 the next week for the Class A title….Rye, suffering from Harrison hangover lost to Westlake (coached by Dino Garr)in the Class B title game.
