Rye Pelham overview per The Old Garnet

Posted Monday, September 15, 2008 by The Old Garnet

Friday, September 19                                       Pelham vs. Rye @ Nugent Stadium                                             7:00 PM

It has become what it once was – an annual affair – just like the old-timers from the 50s to the 90s remember.  The PELHAM PELICANS swoop into Rye for the 48th renewal of a great football series dating back to 1952.  Rye and Pelham played for 33 straight years from ’52 to ’92 sans ’54.   A fellow SWIAC and CWL (Central Westchester League) charter member, the Blue and White nest comfortably in third place of all Garnet antagonists in games played at 47, but plummet with their distinctively pouched bills coming up close to empty at 40-5-2 (.889%).  Victims of 18 straight crash landings against Rye since 1977, these scraggly shorebirds plan to ruffle Rye’s feathers.  Having won only five times in fifty-six years, its time to call Peltown Taxi for these birds. PLUCK THE PELICANS ! PLUCK THE PELICANS ! PLUCK THE PELICANS ! PLUCK THE PELICANS
