From The Old Garnet:
The Old Garnet has rummaged around the woods and dens of Westchester in search of Ursus Briarcliffus, Rye?s first-round Section One - Class B playoff opponent.
Strangely never having opposed the BRIARCLIFF BEARS prior to 2000, this series has quickly emerged from hibernation and clawed its way through seven previous contests in seven years with the Garnets holding the upper paw at 5-2-0 (.714).
Will the Orange and Blue play football like Baby Bear? Yogi Bear? Smokey the Bear? Boo-Boo Bear? Pooh Bear? or Papa Bear? Are these bruins carnivores, omnivores or herbivores? None of this cuddly Teddy Bear talk matters as it?s Rye that applies a suffocating ?Bear Hug? to these cubs, snares both the honey and the porridge and avoids the Briarcliff trap advancing to the Class B semi-final round next week. Husky game taught this Garnet a lesson - if Nanuet didn?t throw a pass last week and rushed for hundreds of yards, I can?t imagine what Ramalho will do to these ornery, sleepy and docile bears. In a typical opening-round playoff match, I'm calling it Rye 35, Briarcliff 7, but it could be a shutout.
Kevin Devaney's prediction is not too far offf: Rye 35 - Briarcliff 14 (See his blog .)
