The Old Garnet's Prediction for Saturday's game v Yonkers

Posted Wednesday, September 12, 2007 by Dino Garr

Talk about resurrecting both a school and a football team – it’s the YONKERS BULLDOGS appearing on Rye’s schedule for the first time since 1965. Why that was just a year after this Old Garnet left the hallowed halls of Rye High!

For years Yonkers High was closed and mothballed due to declining enrollment, but with numbers trending upward the school was reopened and football reinstated in the early ‘00s. This will be the 6th dog fight in the series with Rye dominating 5-1-0 (.833).

Interestingly for the Orange and Blue, their popular mascot is a stocky breed with compact body, sturdy limbs, short muzzle and saggy skin; but is also characterized by its tenacity and loyalty. With their last bite of Rye coming way back in 1973, these slobbering pooches want to gnaw the Garnets in Game 2.

The Rye High School Class of 1972 is having their 35th Reunion this weekend. Welcome home and please have an enjoyable, safe weekend.

Go Garnets !

Note from the Webmaster: Look for The Old Garnets season predictions and the statistics for the Garnets in the 2007 Football Journal which should be available at the game.
