As they say, from The Old Garnet's Pen to God's Ear! And he says, History is the Best Predictor of the Future . . . . .

The Section One Class B Championship comes down to a rematch with the # 5 seeded PELHAM PELICANS in a game to be played Saturday, November 4 at 8:00 PM at Mahopac High School. Rye, the # 2 seed, continues its long-standing football relationship with Pelham in this 46th renewal of a series that dates back to 1952. Rye and Pelham played for 33 straight years from '52-'92 sans '54.

A quick peak inside the close-mouthed Pelican's beak yields a recent football history that would even frighten a win-starved Pelican from Pelham.
2006 2 Rye ?? Pelham ?? (Section One Class B Final) 2006 - Rye 21 Pelham 6 2005 2 Rye 41 Pelham 20
2002 2 Rye 25 Pelham 14
2000 2 Rye 38 Pelham 26
1998 2 Rye 22 Pelham 12
1996 2 Rye 29 Pelham 14
1995 2 Rye 27 Pelham 20
1994 2 Rye 26 Pelham 15
1993 2 Rye 19 Pelham 0 (Section One Class C Final)

One must go back twenty-nine (that's 29) years to 1977 to find a "recent" Pelham win over Rye. Then back another twelve years to 1965 (41 years ago) searching for a second Pelham victory.

The Pelican's have swooped to an enemic 5-38-2 (.116) record against Rye back to the 1920s as Pelham wins in this series are as scarce as Pelican's teeth.

History would predict Rye 28 Pelham 14, but this pundit takes the safe choice 2 Rye 35 Pelham 7. One could also forecast a repeat of the '93 Section One Class C Championship game dominated by the Garnets in a 19-0 white-washing of the Blue and White.

Beware Garnets this could be a "trap" game.

Let the feathers fly on Saturday night ! Garnets wreak havoc in the Pelican rookery !

Next? . . . . . The Red Hook Red Raiders? The Marlboro Iron Dukes? The Albany Academy Cadets? The Hudson Blue Hawks? The Peru Warriors? The Plattsburgh Hornets? The Cazenovia Lakers? The Westhill Warriors? The Chenango Forks Blue Devils? The Windsor Black Knights? The Maryvale Flyers? The Lackawanna Steelers? The Geneva Panthers? The Hornell Red Raiders? . . . . . . . . . . Not the Harrison Huskies!

As long as the Garnets keep winning, you can check the Rye Garnet Football Website in the coming weeks for further news, scores and the Old Garnet's predictions and historical (hysterical) viewpoint.
